Q. What is the purpose of Nannyinsure Public Liability insurance?
A. Our insurance policy covers you for anything that may happen to the children in your care for which you can be held legally liable. Should you (the nanny) be held legally responsible for death or injury to a child or third party, or third party property damage, this insurance would cover the damages and legal costs payable, up to the limit of indemnity.

Q. What does the Limit of Indemnity refer to?
A. This is the maximum amount payable by the policy in respect of an insured claim arising from a single cause or event.

Q. Why should I consider this insurance?

  • Nannies have the same legal responsibilities as childminders.
  • Accidents do happen and can occur anywhere at anytime.
  • People can and do litigate against individuals as a result of accidents, regardless of whether they feel the individual has any wealth or not.
  • The Ofsted register requires all registered nannies to have insurance.
  • The Nannyinsure policy provides you with peace of mind that should you be held liable for an accident, protection is in force.

Q. How many children am I covered for?
A. The number of minded children in your direct and immediate personal care at any one time must not exceed six.

Q. Am I covered if I take the children on day-trips and other outings?
A. Yes, the Nanny policy will cover you anywhere within the UK – whilst carrying out your activities as a home-based childcare professional.

Q. Am I also covered if I work in a nanny share arrangement?
A. Nanny Share situations are automatically covered provided you do not care for more than 6 children and the parents are in agreement with the arrangement.

Q. Am I covered if I travel abroad with my employer?
A. With the Nannyinsure policy you are covered anywhere within the UK as well as the EU, and you are also covered for up to 90 days anywhere else in the world. At least one parent or legal guardian of the minded children must be on the trip with you , and you must have travel insurance in force for the complete duration of the trip.

Q. What happens if a child has an accident during the period of my insurance policy but there is no claim brought against me until months or years later, when I no longer have a policy in force.  Will I still be covered?
A. By law, a claim can be brought against a childcare professional up to a child’s 21st birthday – long after they have left your care.  Our insurance will cover you if you had a policy in place at the time of the accident and are legally liable for the accident. Remember that you must always inform Nannyinsure of any incidents that could give rise to a claim being made.

Q. Does my employer need insurance for me to work in their home?
A. Yes, your employing family must have Employer’s Liability cover to cover you if you sustain an injury in their home as a result of their negligence. They must be insured for a minimum of £5,000,000. This is a legal responsibility and they can be fined up to £2,500 for every day that they are without this cover.

Q. What Limits of Indemnity are available?
A. You can either have an indemnity of £3,000,000 or £5,000,000.
